Club Update

To all our members and friends of Diggle Band Club.

Just to give you an update on what has been happening at your club while we have been closed.

It hasn’t been a great start to the year with the Government locking us down again. We have had to rethink our survival and business strategy for the coming year.

In normal circumstances at this time of year, the committee looks at what we achieved in the last 12 months and set out our plans for the coming year to ensure the club facilities are safe, and more importantly, a place that our members want to visit.

What we achieved in 2020

  • Decorated the whole of the ground floor and refurbished the toilet facilities.
  • Introduced a Covid compliant environment and safe operating systems.
  • Refurbished and decorated the cellar
  • Reviewed our beer offer and working with the brewery we have introduced new brands that would appeal to a wider market. This has proven to be very successful.
  • Increased staffing levels to ensure that we are a covid secure workplace, reducing opening hours to support our increased staffing costs.
  • Introduced Sunday opening which has proved to be very successful.
  • Built fencing and carried out repairs to the rear of the club.
  • Carried out long-overdue improvements to the flat upstairs with a view to renting it out. We completed the works in December and we are now in a position to instruct Bridges to act as our agents to manage the rental. We now have a tenant in the flat which is great especially in the middle of a pandemic.

Our plans for 2021

  • Repairing the Drive wall which collapsed in October last year.  Completed
  • New fencing to the front lawn,  Completed
  • Fitting new windows to the front of the club - these have needed replacing for some time.  Completed
  • Installing CCTV cameras to help with club security.Completed
  • Upgrade the bar equipment and facilities which will be carried out by the brewery.Completed
  • Reopening the high-level windows in the concert room. Completed
  • Reupholstering seating in the concert room and laying new carpet. Completed
  • We will subscribe to a music streaming service that will enable us to play music from a laptop behind the bar. Completed.
  • Improvements to the games room so we can increase the seating capacity.Ongoing
  • We are investigating opening on Saturday day time and the cost of Sky Sports so we can show live football matches on Saturdays and Sundays in the Games Room.
  • Hopefully, once the pandemic is under control, we will be introducing the two-tier charging system that will ensure members pay less for drinks than non-members.

The schedule of works which will be carried out this year has been based upon suggestions given to us by members when we reopened in July. This is your club and we are very open to suggestions to improve and expand. Please keep your ideas coming!

All this activity has only been possible with the support of Government grants, loans, and the generous efforts of members of the committee and local tradesmen, who have all been willing to give us their time and expertise free of charge. All the improvements so far that have been carried out have been done at a fraction of what it should have cost or in most cases free.

This coming year will be challenging. At this point, we are unsure when we may be opening again. The Club costs approximately £1000 a month just to remain empty and with the reserves we have and the Business Continuation loan we took out we can survive this year but we would like to take the opportunity of this third lockdown to start further improvements to the club.
To carry out this year's programme of works and improvements we need your help, we need your support through prompt payment of membership fees.

We are asking you as a member if you could pay your membership fee this year in January so we can continue to deliver the improvements to the facilities. It will mean that when we reopen it will be a great place to spend time with friends and family.
We appreciate that you could only take advantage of your membership for twelve weeks last year and it is a big ask for you to pay this year's fee without a date that we can open, but I can assure you that every penny will be spent on making the club a fantastic venue for you to enjoy.

Should you wish to renew your membership online then here are the details you will need

Membership fee £15.00

All that remains for us to say is we wish you and your families all the best for the new year. Please stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you again when we have collectively beaten this pandemic.

The final thirty photographs have now been framed and are waiting for the club to re-open so the public vote can take place.
